Responsible play

Home / Responsible play

Competitive games are designed to keep you in the queue. Ranked ladders, seasonal passes and daily objectives all pull in the same direction. None of that is a problem as long as you decide the terms rather than the game.

Set the session length first

"One more match" is the most expensive sentence in this genre. Choosing a number of games before you start, or setting an alarm, turns the end of a session into your decision.

Seasonal passes are not deadlines

A pass you did not finish is not a loss. Treat the content as optional, because it is — every game in our catalogue is fully playable without one.

Losing streaks

Playing angry rarely ends well and almost never ends early. Standing up after two bad matches is the single most useful habit in competitive play.

Signs to watch for

  • Queueing automatically instead of choosing to play.
  • Sleep, work or study routinely losing out to session time.
  • Irritability or restlessness when you cannot play.
  • Spending more on a game than you intended, repeatedly.

If it stops being enjoyable

Take a few days away — that usually answers the question of whether you enjoy the game or just the habit. Talking to someone you trust helps. If the pattern holds, a local health service or a national support line for behavioural dependency is the right step.

Younger players

This site is written for adults. Consoles, PC storefronts and mobile platforms all offer detailed parental controls, including spending limits and playtime reports — worth configuring before handing over a device.
